In the fall of 2019, spaces across the USA will be reclaimed by the spirit of Panama, invoking a night of music and celebration with some of the most exciting artists making Latin music today. The Panameri’kana Tour is redefining North America– highlighting the rich, but often overlooked, music of Latin America and the artists who are bringing it to the future. Panmeri’kana is a moment to express the resilience of the human spirit, and celebrate a rich and vibrant community that is still influencing America today. It is an open and inclusive environment; a place where tradition and rebellion can coexist.

The Panameri’kana Tour celebrates Latino heritage in the United States by focusing on the integral role Latin music has played in the American story of folk, jazz, and rock'n'roll. Panameri’kana is a time for us to celebrate the pull of Latin music in the US.

 More About Making Movies:

Energy, mysticism, roots– it's hard to describe the music of Making Movies, a band that Rolling Stone says is "breaking down walls in the United States," with a mix of afro-latino rhythms and psychedelic rock'n'roll that makes the group's sound something unique. The connection between the Chi brothers (hailing from Santiago, Panama)– together with their Mexican bandmates, the Chaurand brothers– results in an overwhelming musical presence that takes you through landscapes festive, furious, refreshing, and dark.

At times the falsetto of Diego Chi (bassist) takes you to the underworld, while the fuzz of Enrique Chi's guitar anchors his spirited voice in the midst of the Chaurand brothers’ primal and folkloric percussion. An explosion of energy on the stage– does the soundtrack make the movie, or does the movie make for the soundtrack?

Salsa icon Rubén Blades has joined forces with the Latinx psych-rockers/ activists to launch "No Te Calles," a song and a movement that invites artists and fans to participate on the website NoTeCalles.World. No Te Calles was the first single from the band’s new album ameri’kana (out May 24) which also features Flor De Toloache, David Hidalgo (of Los Lobos), Flor de Toloache, Las Cafeteras, and Asdru Sierra (Ozomatli). The band has toured extensively, appearing with the likes of Arcade Fire, Los Lobos, Hurray For the Riff Raff, Bomba Estereo, Galactic, Jesse & Joy, Flor De Toloache, and Thievery Corporation.

More About Los Rakas:

Los Rakas is comprised of cousins Raka Rich and Raka Dun, pioneering Panamanians on the frontier of a new Latin urban sound. Known for their fresh mix of hip-hop, plena, reggae and dancehall music; the New York Times has described their rhymes as “proclaiming solidarity across the hemisphere.” The Grammy-nominated duo represents the cutting edge of Pan-American flows and Afro-Latinx pride.

2011’s Chancletas y Camisetas was Los Rakas first non-mixtape release. In 2012, Los Rakas they released their EP, Raka Love, touring nationally and internationally. Their debut album on Universal, El Negrito Dun Dun y Ricardo, released in 2014 and debuted at number 47 on The Billboard charts. In 2016, Los Rakas released their self-titled, second album earning them a Grammy nomination for “Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album”. Their 2019 album Manes De Negocio is best described by Remezcla as a “socially conscious trap soiree”.

As KQED states, Los Rakas are “positioning themselves as the heirs of pioneering Black Panamanian reggaetoneros such as El General and Renato.” Raka Rich and Raka Dun are turning the current Latin hip-hop world on its head.
